Ever since I was a kid I've been fascinated with little worlds. Early on it was Polly Pocket and Micro Machines, when I got older it was gameboard making for playing 40k. I had a ton of fun approaching this with that kind of crafty mindset. It was a real challenge for me to let go of certain workflows I always used, but I had to do some things different to get the look I felt I wanted. I'm happy with how it turned out!
Besides that, it was also a big oppurtunity to practice a TON of vertex animation stuff: All of the animation is done this way, no bones or messing around with alembic caches.
I'm going to make a night time version and then work through creating a day-night cycle to practice some other stuff!
Tilt shifted!
Different spots during my progress - I try to tackle the water up top, but I end up tweaking it all the way until the end since it's such an important element here. I block the big stuff in first, working big to small as always.
